Organisms have to reproduce. After a while everything starts to wear out and the aging organism has to make sure there will be a new generation before it’s too late. There’s more than one scientist that think that this is the only reason for life: To produce new carriers for the DNA.
Genes make sure that all characteristics of your body are produced and regulated. How your genes work is predictable. Some genes have leader roles, others have (almost) no function anymore. All work together to give you the shape and size you have.
Sometimes a characteristic (and thus the corresponding gene) knows more than one version. This means that it is possible to have variable offspring. Using this to predict what the offspring will look like sometimes gives you a few surprises.
This WebQuest will show you how knowledge about genetics can be used in daily life, but will also help you to determine where you stand in using knowledge about genes. The AoKs from which you can see the knowledge will also play a role in your final evaluation.

Both DP1s and DP1h will be using this webpage.
Make sure to skip steps labelled "BioH:" when you are in the DP1s-class! If working with a DP1h student, you will have to make sure your group does show these steps in your shared product.
You will be assigned to a specific case file before the start of this WebQuest.
