The gene responsible for this protein knows two X-chromosome bound (X-linked) alleles: XB causes the iris to be yellow in shade, Xb gives a blue iris like Moko has. Petei carries an exceptionally rare dominant allele on his Y chromosome, causing the iris to lose its shade and turn the colour of the blood streaming through it.
Petei has tested positive for the allele for blue eyes.
